Description

Bring a touch of sentiment to your living space and your office with this paper knife that will make the perfect year-round addition to your environment.
This exquisite piece beautifully showcases the graphic qualities of the salamander, this mythical animal that, over time, has come to be endowed with supernatural powers.

Referenced for the first time by philosopher and naturalist Pliny the Elder, the salamander became a major feature of medieval bestiaries, as well as an alchemical and heraldic figure to which a profound symbolism was attached. Its imagined ability to resist fire and even to extinguish it led to it being adopted as the emblem of King Francis I in the 16th century, accompanying his motto: “I live in it and I extinguish it”.

Widely used in the history of the arts, particularly the early arts and more recently the decorative arts of the 30s, the salamander is cleverly transformed here into a paper knife gilded with 24-carat fine gold and embellished with red crystals

Length: 24cm.
